Astronomical photographs printed on clear acrylic
5” x 5” x 3”

Shown are multiples from an edition of 5. The works are made up of 11 images of a supernova, printed onto sheets of clear acrylic. The consecutive images, captured over a five-month period, from August through November 2003, show the supernova in different stages of its evolution after explosion. The explosion event took place about three and a half billion years ago. The images are in consecutive order, with the oldest one being at the back of the stack. In photographic terms, all eleven images have been converted from a positive to a negative, so that instead of the star reading as a bright spot, it is dark and the deep space surrounding it is clear. These works were commissioned by the Groupe Molior to serve as awards for the 2006 Canadian Association of Science Centres.
